Book Description

As founder of the Experimental Music Studio at the U. of Illinois in 1958, American composer Lejaren Hiller was a pioneer in the area of computer assisted music composition. In this study, Bohn provides detailed analyses of several of Hillers most important works, including the ILLIAC Suite and the Computer Cantata. Other topics include (for example) the construction of the ILLIAC I computer, the process of creating electronic music, and the influence of information theory on Hillers music. Bohn teaches music technology and theory at the U. of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. The text is based on his doctoral dissertation. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
