Book Description

Marie Wilson is best known as the lovable but pea brained Irma Peterson on the long running radio program ""My Friend Irma"". Irma was so innocent, naive, and well, dumb, to think that flypaper is what is used on airplanes! The real life Marie Wilson was certainly much loved but she certainly wasnt naive or dumb. From an early age she supported her family. She also took advantage of her exceptional good looks to get a foothold in Hollywood. She was the one who came up with her ""dumb blonde"" persona when she figured she needed a gimmick which would make her stand out at auditons. In the course of a nearly forty-year career Marie appeared in more than 40 films opposite such screen greats as Laurel and Hardy, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Groucho Marx, Rosalind Russell and Jimmy Stewart. During World War Two she was a popular pin up and a star attraction in Ken Murrays famous stage show ""Blackouts"". The radio version of ""My Friend Irma"" was so popular that it led to two wildly successful films which are best known today for launching Martin and Lewis in motion pictures. Marie later appeared frequently on television and was a popular nightclub performer. Find out why Marie Wilson was ""Not so Dumb.""
