Book Description
The development of textiles as an art form between 1945 and 1970, and the extent of the collaboration between artists and textile manufacturers in Britain at this time, is unrivalled in modern art history. Although there were a number of examples of artists designing manufactured and hand-made fabrics during the late nineteenth century, none really succeeded in the production of art for the people’. Even William Morris’ strong socialist commitments could not prevent him from producing for a relatively small elite.
