Editorial Reviews

This book describes Nessie, a 1,500-year old legend, and the numerous reported sightings of "the monster." Could a sea monster be living in Loch Ness? Find out about the Nessie legend and how science is trying to solve this mystery. Vocabulary words are defined for the reader. There is little narrative but the well-done illustrations carry the message. There is a 1933 photo which is thought to show Nessie turning over in the water. Loch Ness became famous and a road was built to accommodate the interested visitors. Some have described the type of animal that they saw. There was a film made called "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep." Many believe that Nessie is a mammal such as a whale. There is a section that tells about "Famous Sightings" and one that is called "Is Nessie Real?" A "Nessie Fact" section describes sonar tests. Even today new animals are being discovered—only time will tell about Nessie. Part of the "Blazers: Mysteries of Science" series. Reviewer: Naomi Butler
