Danoli: The Peoples Champion

Danoli is nothing short of a miracle horse who, but for the love of his owner and his trainer, the renowned Tom Foley, would have been shot dead after shattering a leg while winning the 1995 Martell Hurdles at Aintree.

Nobody knows precisely when the horrific injury occurred, but the fact that Danoli baffled on to win despite having cracked the joint between his cannon-bone and pastern left big-race jockey Charlie Swan spellbound. That crippling injury would have spelt The End for any normal racehorse, but Danoli roared back to his magnificent best recently amid scenes of great jubilation to win the prestigious Hennessy Gold Cup.
