Mr Churchill’s Profession : Statesman, Orator, Writer

In 1953, Winston Churchill received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Though he had become a professional writer before he became a politician, and would in the course of a lifetime publish a stream of books and articles, Churchill’s political career has largely overshadowed his literary achievements. Tracing the writing of the magisterial work that would occupy him, on and off, for a quarter of a century- the four-volume A History of the English-Speaking Peoples- historian Peter Clarke examines the lesser known of Churchill’s two intertwined careers.
