1740: Louise Fletcher, a dairy maid on an Essex farm, has been warned of the lure of the sea for as long as she can remember; it was the sea that stole away her father and brother. But when she is offered work as maid to a wealthy captains daughter in the bustling port of Harwich, she leaps at the chance to see more of the world.
