Editorial Reviews

In this nonfiction series about innovations and inventions of our time, the text follows the story of LEGO toys from the creative beginning to the present time. Ole Christiansen, who worked as a master carpenter in Denmark, first made toys from wood and sold them at his shop. The first chapter describes how LEGOS evolved from the wooden toys into interlocking plastic bricks. There were problems to overcome, and eventually there were more elaborate developments, such as themed sets like the "Town Plan," which included bricks to make a house, a gas station, or another building. One chapter tells how LEGO bricks are used in educational endeavors and how the toys are used in corporate problem solving. The last chapter explains how LEGO products are used in the latest technology and in media production. Photographs in color are featured throughout the text, along with a number of fast facts. The book contains a table of contents, a glossary, an index, and a page that lists additional books and websites. The book presents interesting information and would be helpful for research purposes.
